The Coast Path – Third Stage

Sunday 18th April was a perfect day for walking, and, with past minor inconsistencies in mind—so could be said for the organisation ! Well done John Lowe!
Twenty –six set off from The Crescent Car Park on the dot of 8.30am,and after some discussion decided to make for Lynton’s car park, thus avoiding the climb from the sea.
After a tedious operation to remove a rather tenacious thorn from the sole of John O’s boot ,the group soon joined the coastal path and entered the famed Valley oif the Rocks. The feral goats seemed particularly numerous though not too pungent !
The White Lady was admired by the newcomers before the descent past Lee Abbey.

Conversations flowed back and forth, notably the scent of change in the political set up following the first televised debate.
The Spring sun cheered everyone as they tackled the demanding climb out of Heddon’s Mouth to a relaxing lunch break on the headland overlooking the sea. The gorse on Trentishoe was particularly vibrant with its coconut scent filling the still air.
By Sherycombe the pace had slowed and some ventured off the narrow path to reach the high summit of Great Hangman—the highest point on the Coast Path ?
The question on the descent to Combe Martin was whether any tea shop would be still open ?
John O ,following the lead of his earlier mentor Dave Orr,saved the day by chatting up the landlady of the nearest pub who saw the opportunity of good business with a flock of thirsty ramblers !
And so back to Taunton. with a book of past SWCP experiences and a belated birthday cake to help while away the miles !
